Mona Klein held a master diploma in microsystems technology from the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and a doctorate in nanotechnology from the EPFL, where she pioneered wafer-scale nanosphere lithography, a research topic she continued at IBM Research in Zurich.
Being passionate about sports, Mona practiced various disciplines to the limit. In particular, she pursued mountain climbing at a high level, always being aware of its many dangers. In summer of 2013 Mona was fatally injured by a rockfall during a climbing expedition in Kirghistan.
The MONA 3D Nanolithography Laboratory is dedicated to her memory.
